My name is Sarah Smillie, I always knew I would work in a creative industry from an early age. My mother’s interior style and creativity heavily influenced me growing up and i quickly saw the world in visual terms.
I started my career back in 1988 as a window dresser at Jones Brothers in Holloway Road Islington. I worked for John Lewis for 32 years. In that time I worked my way up to Head office and the central department of visual merchandising. I’ve worked on buyers conferences, VM displays for windows and interiors, designed and styled/installed the John Lewis press shows, high profile events, pop up shops, exhibitions, collaborated with established artists and travelled the world to report on current trends sharing with the business the creative direction for John Lewis in Visual Merchandising. I’ve designed/created and project managed various John Lewis Christmas advert windows for the flagship store, managing a 40 plus team over a week of nights to create high profile destination window displays.
I’ve also renovated properties to sell, redesigning new layouts and creating the interiors. One of my passions is to create spaces to reflect the owner, adding personality and creating inspirational interiors. My style tends to have a playful approach with attention to detail and an unexpected twist.
I’m now starting out on my own and happy to take on any project that needs a visual solution, I’m based in Lewes, East Sussex.
